KTM 990 Adventure Produced From 2006 To 2013

KTM 990 Adventure: A Love Story

Life Well Ridden follows the journey of purchasing a KTM 990 Adventure in California and riding it over 1,000 miles back to Arizona. The adventure includes navigating mountain roads, coastal highways, and harsh desert conditions before transforming the motorcycle with personalized modifications for future off-road excursions.

KTM 990 Adventure Off-Road Specialist 2006 - 2013

The KTM 990 Adventure is a legendary dual-sport motorcycle KTM produced from 2006 to 2013, widely renowned as a rally-bred, off-road specialist among heavy-displacement travel enduros. Born from KTM’s dominant Dakar Rally heritage, this machine succeeded the older 950 Adventure and brought highly anticipated modern tech updates to the global adventure-biking scene.
At its core lies a liquid-cooled 999cc LC8 75-degree V-twin engine, delivering between 105 and 115 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque depending on the specific model variant. The most significant evolution from its predecessor was the shift to electronic fuel injection (EFI), which provides crisp throttle response and stable performance across changing altitudes. It also introduced a switchable ABS system to safely tame its massive Brembo braking power.
Built around a lightweight chromium-molybdenum trellis frame, the 990 Adventure features a dirt-bike-inspired 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel configuration on wire rims, paired with premium, fully adjustable WP suspension that delivers up to 210mm of travel. While its narrow seat and exceptionally tall posture compromise long-distance highway comfort, its perfect balance, durable build, and raw agility make it an unmatched weapon on rugged, unpaved terrain worldwide.
